The Chickahominy
Weekend of April 1st-3rd, 2022

We will be competing on the Chickahominy River, launching out of Riverfront Park located at 1350 John Tyler Hwy Williamsburg, VA 23185. If you plan to practice, you’ll more than likely be driving down on Friday, April 1st (CHECK IN), practice on Saturday, April 2nd and then competing on Sunday, April 3rd (CHECK OUT).

As always, you are welcome to stay wherever is best for you. I would suggest communicating with your partner and boat captain and either stay together, or at least close. I have contacted the same hotel we stayed at last year several times. Yet, I haven’t had any luck catching the department which provides a special group rate and is able to block rooms for our group. Their availability time window is very small. Fingers crossed I’m able to catch them tomorrow while they are in. Below, please see the location and contact information. For those who fished the Chickahominy last year, this is the hotel that doesn’t have boat hook ups. If you recall, we used generators and that seemed to work just fine. If you have a generator, please bring it. If not, there will be generators provided. Please respond and let us know whether or not you’ll need a generator. Please bring extension cords. The longer, the better! In addition to this hotel, you could also look into the park where we are launching out of. I believe they have campsites available but NOT cabins. It would be a tent/RV/camper situation.

Also, consider looking into an AirBNB.

••Holiday Inn Express Williamsburg North

-19 mins from the ramp

-720 Lightfoot Road Williamsburg, VA 23188

-P#: (757)220-0062

Holiday Inn Express Williamsburg North has created a block for our group. The rate for a double bed (2 queens) room is $114/night + tax. This rate is locked in for our group until the DEADLINE OF NEXT FRIDAY, March 25TH. After that date, rooms will no longer be available at the special group rate and will be released to general inventory for re-sell. Please be sure to reserve your room no later than March 25th to ensure the best rate.

This rate includes the complimentary breakfast buffet (hot), which saves you $16.95/per person. Also, complimentary Wi-Fi for the entirety of the stay, which saves $10.95/room.

When calling to reserve, mention that you are with the “FREDERICK COUNTY BASS” group and they will know which rate to offer.

As a reminder, if you plan on practicing, check in will be Friday, April 1st. Practice on the 2nd and then compete and check out on the 3rd.

Lyall Griffin shared some lodging information that could be considered as well. I called that hotel and asked about hook ups for the boats. That hotel can accommodate a FEW truck and boat parking (pull thru spots) but they DO NOT have boat hook ups. So, please keep in mind that if you stay there, you’ll need a generator or something to plug the batteries in overnight.

I understand this information isn’t all that helpful. More on the way! Start looking into what’s best for you as soon as possible to ensure the best stay. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the advisors.

Smith Mountain Lake ~
March 11, 12, 13 2022 ~ Weekend

Buggs Island/Kerr Lake ~
October 16, 2021

With the second qualifier right around the corner, I hope you find this information helpful when considering your options for lodging! We will be competing on Buggs Island/Kerr Lake and launching out of the Occoneechee State Park ramp in Clarksville, VA.

THIS RAMP DOES HAVE A FEE PER DAY. Please consider covering your captain's ramp fee/s.

Our division will be competing on Saturday, October 16th. If you choose to practice, that'll take place on Friday, the 15th. Most anglers and boat captains typically drive down on Thursday afternoon/evening, therefore, check in will be on Thursday, October 14th.

Below I have provided several different options for lodging. These options will look very similar, almost identical, to the ones provided for the first qualifier. We will be in the same area’ish.

It is up to you to ensure your stay is secured. You do not have to choose from one of these options. You are welcome to stay anywhere. I suggest chatting with your partner and boat captain regarding lodging. It's often easiest if anglers stay together, or at least close. The mornings are early and staying together will avoid running behind or any other confusion that could occur. It is also your responsibility to ensure your boat captain has lodging secured. Please take care of your boat captains!

Below are some options for lodging for the next tournament on Smith Mountain Lake. We will be launching out of the Parkway Marina. These are only options for you to consider. You are welcome to stay wherever is best for you. I would suggest communicating with your partner and boat captain and either stay together, or at least close. PLEASE READ REVIEWS before booking. Some of them weren’t so great, but every business will have that. Areas to consider when booking your stay would be Hardy/Huddleston/Lynchburg/Altavista. You could also look into the state park where we are launching out of. I believe they have some cabins. Also, consider looking into an AirBNB.  Finding lodging options isn’t always an easy task when considering such a large group with specific accommodations that are important to have. I found it especially hard for this body of water. The last 2 years, the SML qualifier was cancelled due to COVID so this area was a first for me. I was lucky if an employee answered the phone for me to ask questions.
